Plaster, wood, acrylic paint, iron wire, metal paint, insulating paint. Zikel: The title refers to music theory and is about Counterpoint. Music is an important source of inspiration for me. Music is often about 'harmony'. I chose it because the shape, the element of woven and painted iron wire seems to have emerged from 2 horizontal and two vertical poles. The shape in the middle behind the vertical bar has the relief of a face. Against a light background of yellow and blue, two colours that refer to the yellow light of the sun and the blue of the sky, which thus symbolises nature and our climate. That is why the face seems to bump its head against certain limitations regarding actions and time. A critical work, therefore, about the human inability to live in harmony with the environment, with nature. And that measures are difficult and often far too late or not implemented at all. And yet a harmonious whole, encouraging in the right direction and an ode to the beauty of nature of which we are a part. Zikel trained at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
