Product description
This old glazed stoneware advertising pitcher tells a rich page of the history of the liquor makers of Puy-en-Velay and of this distillation tradition that long made the reputation of Haute-Loire. Framboise du Velay is intimately linked to the Vey-Maurin company, heir to the Maurin-Brenas company founded in Puy-en-Velay in 1884. In 1920, the company was taken over by Régis Vey, already familiar with the world of distilleries. Under his leadership, the company continued and developed a production of liqueurs and regional specialties, among which Framboise du Velay would take a particularly important place. This fruit liqueur achieved such success that its name gradually became inseparable from that of the company. During the 1960s and 1970s, Framboise du Velay established itself as a true commercial identity, in that great era when regional distilleries also competed in imagination to adorn tables, cafes, and counters with objects bearing their colors. Our pitcher fully belongs to this world. Made of glazed stoneware, it features a generous, deep, and brilliant amber-brown glaze, whose lighter variations naturally highlight the rich molded relief decoration. The body is entirely adorned with vegetal motifs, bunches, foliage, volutes, and beaded friezes. At the center is a light cartouche bearing the inscription "Framboise du Velay – Liqueur," immediately highlighted by the contrast with the deep brown of the ceramic. The tall neck, the well-designed spout, and the large rounded handle give the pitcher a generous and very decorative silhouette. The particularly prominent relief gives it the almost sculptural character found on beautiful advertising objects from that period. These pitchers were designed to accompany the marketing and serving of beverages in cafes, restaurants, and establishments serving the company's liqueurs. More than half a century later, they constitute charming testaments to that era when promotional items were still designed to last and fully participate in the decor of the counter or table. With a height of approximately 17 cm and an opening close to 8 cm, this example retains a very beautiful shiny glaze and perfectly legible decoration. The bottom bears the marking "C.48".
