Product description
Leonor Fini — Surrealist Sphinge (rare lithograph)
Rare lithograph on Arches vellum paper, hand-signed and numbered by the surrealist artist Leonor Fini, whose work is currently undergoing rediscovery and growing recognition, as part of the renewed interest in 20th-century women artists.
This print depicts a mythological creature called Sphinge or Sphinx, a legendary being that also inspired Claude Lalanne, Leonora Carrington, Dorothea Tanning and Remedios Varo, other great figures of surrealist art.
Another copy of this famous lithograph belonged to Brigitte Bardot's personal collection. It had been given to her by Leonor Fini herself and was listed under the title « Sphinge de Brigitte ».
The facial features of the creature are, in all likelihood, those of Brigitte Bardot herself.
This Sphinge is one of the most beautiful and emblematic compositions in Leonor Fini's oeuvre.
