Product description
This earthenware storage jar reflects the clean form and subtle detailing of traditional Mediterranean ceramic craft. Formed from sand-tempered terracotta, the vessel features a rounded body, a defined cylindrical neck, and two shoulder loop handles. Its textured surface and varied earthy patina display the natural variations of traditional kiln firing. Historically designed as an essential agricultural vessel, jars of this construction were used to store and cure olives, as well as hold olive oil, wine, or dry grains. The porous clay helped regulate aeration during curing, while the double loop handles allowed the jar to be secured with rope during transport or suspended for storage. The vessel is detailed with two raised, thumb-indented clay bands encircling the upper shoulder. Between these borders and across the midsection, hand-painted geometric lattice patterns and horizontal lines rendered in dark red pigment accent the body. Today, this piece functions well as a quiet focal point, mantle statement, or standalone decorative accent in both contemporary and traditional spaces.
