Product description
Beautiful "Omoi" kokeshi by Masae Fujikawa.
"Omoi" translates to 'thoughts', 'feelings', or 'devotion'.
Characteristic of this model is the stylish depiction of a girl with a sleek, dark/black "okappa" hairstyle (bob cut) and a red kimono or base decorated with engraved and painted floral motifs.
Splendid "Michiyuki" kokeshi by Masae Fujikawa.
Masae Fujikawa (1942–2015) was a prominent Japanese kokeshi-shi (kokeshi artist) from Gunma Prefecture. He is widely recognized as one of the early masters of the Sōsaku (creative) Kokeshi movement. Fujikawa was born in Gunma Prefecture and began making kokeshi dolls at the young age of 17 (in 1959). He apprenticed with the renowned master Ishida Kanji. In 1991, he founded the Fujikawa Craft Corporation, a family business that his brothers Kazumi and Eiichi later joined. Recognition: During his lifetime, he won numerous prestigious awards. His greatest achievement was twice winning the Prime Minister’s Award (in 1996 and 2002), the highest artistic distinction within the kokeshi world.
