About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This piece of furniture is a design by Dutch designer Rob Eckhardt for the renowned manufacturer Pastoe. The piece, known as the 'Garni', is a characteristic example of postmodern design from the 1980s. The design combines a functional form with a playful aesthetic, typical of Eckhardt's work from that period.
The base of the pouffe is made of a sturdy, purple mottled textile fabric, resting on slender black metal legs that give the whole a floating impression. The construction is robust and offers a wide, low seating surface. A striking detail is the removable, cylindrical headrest, upholstered in a contrasting fabric with an abstract floral pattern in lilac, cream, and purple tones. This modular element adds visual interest and extra comfort.
The overall condition of the furniture is consistent with its age and use. The original upholstery has been preserved and shows the character that has developed over the years. The structure is solid and the furniture retains its original shape and proportions, making it an authentic piece of Dutch Design.
With its unique silhouette and use of color, this 'Garni' pouffe is a distinct statement in an eclectic or postmodern interior. It can serve as a comfortable extra seat, a footstool, or a standalone design object in a living room or creative space.
