Private sellerProduct description
This is a postmodern coffee table by Magnussen, model Ponte, a characteristic design from the 1980s. The piece combines sculptural forms with natural materials, typical of the design movement of that period. The table is an expressive example of the aesthetic that favored monumental forms and texture contrasts.
The construction consists of a three-part design: a wavy, sculptural base, a polished stone sphere, and a rectangular glass top. The base is made of roughly hewn, tessellated Mactan stone, also known as fossil stone, in a light beige and cream color. This rustic, textured surface contrasts with the smooth, polished sphere and the heavy, tempered glass tabletop.
The overall condition of the table is good, consistent with its age and use. The natural materials show an authentic character that contributes to the unique appearance of the object. The combination of the rough stone and clear glass remains a visually captivating interplay.
This coffee table functions as a central statement piece in various interior styles, from Hollywood Regency to eclectic and minimalist. The design adds both texture and an architectural element to a seating area or living room.
