An exceptional, custom-made coffee table by Popke Bakker (1946 - 2020), inspired by the Möbius strip. Signed.
Dimensions: 145 × 105 cm (tempered glass), 90 × 90 cm (hardwood object), height approx. 45 cm. In very good condition; the tabletop is perfectly level.
The sculptural base is executed using Bakker's characteristic double miter technique and embodies an intriguing spatial continuity, akin to the Möbius principle of a single continuous surface.
Bakker gained renown for his mathematical approach to form ("mathematical art"), partly inspired by M. C. Escher. His oeuvre holds a special position within Dutch art and is appreciated for the rare synthesis of geometry, craftsmanship, and artistic reflection.
An object of distinct museum quality. Offers welcome. Info: see short documentary on YouTube, search for: "Popke Bakker Ruigoord".
