Product description
Space-Age Pop Art Ceramic Kitchen Canisters – Manifattura Franco Pozzi Gallarate, Italy Circa 1970 Set of 4
A superb and highly dynamic set of four (4) vintage ceramic kitchen storage canisters with original turned wooden lids, designed and manufactured by the prestigious Manifattura Franco Pozzi in Gallarate, Italy, circa 1970.
This collection represents an exceptional and visually striking manifesto of Italian Space-Age and Pop design, distinguished by an incredibly sophisticated, high-contrast graphic pattern. The surface composition features fluid, organic, overlapping color fields sharply delineated by thick black graphic lines.
The colorway is a masterclass in late 1960s and early 1970s high-fashion and industrial design aesthetics, showing a complex dialogue between distinct visual languages of the era:
• The Fluid Composition: The sinuous, rolling, and interconnected colorful geometries display a strong aesthetic kinship with the world-famous, aristocratic psychedelic motifs popularized by Emilio Pucci during his golden era.
• The Chromatic Energy: The bold integration of an ultra-saturated, electric orange placed in tight contrast against a matrix of deep purple, vibrant magenta/fuchsia, and soft pink channels the raw, futuristic visual electricity typical of Pierre Cardin's contemporary Space-Age research.
By balancing these two cultural currents, Franco Pozzi’s workshops created an independent, elite piece of functional art. The natural turned wooden lids provide a perfect brutalist, organic counterweight to the glossy, high-impact glaze of the bodies. "Each canister features a distinct and unique crop of the organic pattern, establishing a dynamic, continuous movement across the entire set. Rather than a mechanical repetition, the fluid graphics wrap around each varying volume independently, turning the complete series into a powerful piece of modular, kinetic Pop art."
Condition Report:
The canisters feature an extraordinarily bright glaze with magnificent color preservation.
• Note on Wear: The smaller jar in the foreground displays two very small, adjacent flea bites/chips on the upper ceramic rim, measuring approximately 2–3 mm each. These honest signs of age are explicitly visible in the detailed close-up photographs and do not compromise the exceptional display quality or historical integrity of the set. The natural wooden lids show light, uniform vintage patina.
