About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is the iconic Plona folding chair, a design by Italian designer Giancarlo Piretti for Castelli from 1969. The piece is a prime example of innovative design from the Space Age era, where functionality and aesthetics converge. The chair is known for its ingenious folding mechanism, allowing it to be stored flat.
The frame is made of polished cast aluminum, ensuring a light yet robust construction. The seat is upholstered in a warm, cognac-colored skai or leather, which has a comfortable and inviting bucket shape. This model is praised for its clever three-disc hinge point, a detail that is both functional and visually characteristic of Piretti's design. The chair is a milestone in design history and is included in the collection of the MoMA in New York.
The chair is in good vintage condition, consistent with its age and use. The aluminum frame and leather seat show a characteristic patina that emphasizes the authenticity and history of the object. The construction is fully functional, and the chair retains its original appearance.
Thanks to its timeless and compact design, the Plona chair is a versatile addition to various interior styles, from Mid-Century Modern to eclectic. It is an ideal object as an extra seat in a living room, study, or as a standalone design statement.
