Product description
This is a vintage Chinese pin tray, crafted in the Canton enamel tradition on a copper base. The piece is distinguished by its intricate, hand-painted decoration and classic form, representing a fine example of traditional Chinese decorative arts.
The tray features a squared silhouette with lobed corners, set within a brass rim. Its interior surface is adorned with a dense floral and scrollwork motif, rendered in shades of pink, green, and blue against a stippled white enamel ground. The exterior sides display a contrasting geometric pattern in light green. This technique, known as Canton enamel, involves painting vitreous enamels onto a metal base, a method celebrated for its vibrant and detailed results.
In a state of excellent preservation for its age, the tray retains the brightness of its enamelled colours and the integrity of its form. The brass rim has developed a subtle, warm patina that is consistent with its vintage character, adding to its authenticity and historical appeal. The enamel work appears complete and without significant loss.
This small tray serves as an elegant vide-poche for a dressing table, a catch-all on an entryway console, or simply as a decorative object on a bookshelf. Its traditional Asian design allows it to integrate seamlessly into classic, eclectic, or Chinoiserie-inspired interiors.
