Life and work
Warffemius was born in The Hague in 1956. There he studied at the Royal Academy of Art where he graduated in 1979. He was a pupil of Aart Roos and Auke de Vries, among others. After his training he worked in several areas of the visual arts. He is a painter as well as a sculptor, graphic artist and ceramist.
Works by his hand are in the collections of Rabobank, ING Bank, Fortis Bank, Westland Utrecht Hypotheekbank, Nationale Nederlanden, Albert Heijn, the Dutch Railways, KPN and several other companies, among others. Several ministries and the museum het Kruithuis in 's-Hertogenbosch also own work by him. In the sculpture garden of the Caldic Collection in Wassenaar is a bronze sculpture by his hand. Commissioned by the NS, he made a series of panels that were used for the interior of carriages. Warffemius won the Jacob Hartog Prize in 1997 and the Godon Prize in 1980. Warffemius is part of the Potsdamer Gruppe, which includes Sjoerd Buisman and Armando. In 2007 he was a guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg.
