Midcentury pewter tray (c. 1940) by renowned Danish sculptor and designer, Just Andersen.
Andersen’s work is held in the collections of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum and the National Museum in Stockholm, among many others.
Born in 1884 in Greenland, he moved to Denmark to study at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen, before going on to the School of Danish Crafts under Jens Møller-Jensen.
After graduating, he designed for Georg Jensen for a handful of years and then opened his own silversmith company, Just Andersen Pewter, the imprint that this tray is from.
The tray measures 25.7 x 16 x 1.7cm and is in good vintage condition with patina commensurate to 80 years of treasured use.
