A pewter fruit bowl, with a medallion depicting a leaping deer. Designed by Chris van der Hoef (1875-1933), executed by Gerofabrieken Zeist. Model no. 1426, marked with factory mark and monogram. Dating ca. 1925. From 1888 Van der Hoef was an apprentice sculptor at the Atelier Van den Bossche and Crevels in Amsterdam. In 1898, he joined the Amstelhoek pottery factory, where he became a designer and maker of decorative and utilitarian objects. From 1903 to 1910 he was associated with De Woning Amsterdam, Zuid-Holland Gouda, Haga Purmerend and Amphora Oegstgeest. From 1910 Van der Hoef stopped making pottery and began working almost exclusively on sculpting and creating medals. He lived and worked in Amsterdam until 1904, Gouda until 1905, in Amsterdam from 1905 until 1925 (in the former studio of Lambertus Zijl) and in The Hague from 1925 until his death in 1933.
