The iconic Pausania table lamp by Ettore Sottsass Jr. for Artemide dates from the late 1980s. The design impressively combines the experimental formal language of postmodernism with the characteristic design elements of the Memphis movement, for which Sottsass became internationally renowned. The lamp consists of high-gloss black surfaces, chrome-plated metal rods, and translucent green acrylic glass elements, which lend the construction its striking architectural presence. A particularly distinctive feature is the perforated metal cylinder at the top, which, together with the warm light from the integrated fluorescent tube, creates a captivating interplay of color, transparency, and reflection. The clear geometric construction is reminiscent of futuristic architectural and object designs of the Italian postmodern movement and is both functional and sculptural. Thanks to its expressive combination of materials, the Pausania is suitable both as a table lamp and as a standalone design object with strong collector appeal. The original Artemide manufacturer's label is present on the underside.
