Product description
Part 1: The Fruitless Washing (The Compulsion of Structure)
Oil on canvas
This canvas depicts the obsessive, ritualistic interaction with a body that constantly threatens to escape control. The shower room here is not a place of relaxation, but a clinical, compelling setting of toxic yellow and feverish orange.
The act under the showerhead is purely structural and necessary to guard the fragile boundary between the 'I' and the outside world. His asymmetrical gaze darts nervously aside—not because he hears voices, but because the threat of social contact is permanently palpable on the surface of his existence. The angular, cramped arm reaching for the showerhead shows the immense physical tension it takes to stay upright within this structure.
The clock or meter in the upper right is a compelling, objective reality: time ticks relentlessly on, and the transition from the safe bathroom to the unpredictable outside world requires iron discipline.
Part 2: Scent of Sweat (The Boundary of the Flesh)
Oil on canvas
This canvas shows the moment when the structural balance comes under heavy pressure in the encounter with the other. The outside world has been entered, the phobia flares up, and the body reacts autonomously. Jean-Christophe's apocrine glands go into stress mode: anxiety sweat is produced. This thick, protein-rich sweat smells biologically much more pungent, and for someone with a structural psychosis, this scent is a direct, raw confrontation with their own failing body.
His wide-open, asymmetrical eyes radiate a hyper-conscious, existential tension; he registers the world more intensely and unprotected than others. The extremely thin, angular arms are frozen in a cramped, defensive pose—an attempt to literally keep the body in line when deodorant fails.
The bright, magenta-pink hair functions as a beacon of his overstimulated nervous system, sharply contrasting with the blue tiled wall that acts as a rigid, protective grid. Scent of Sweat shows the vulnerability of a person who tries to maintain their dignity with sheer willpower and rigid structures.
