Product description
Panache de Lido poster designed by René Gruau, 1985. Numbered 238 Dated 05/02/1998. Framed by l'éclat de verre in Paris. Very good condition. Dimensions: 68 x 46.5 x 3 cm. Designed by René Gruau for the new revue Panache at the Lido des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Une grande fête by René Fraday and Donn Arden. René Gruau is an Italian artist known for his painterly fashion illustrations. Inspired by the Art Nouveau aesthetic of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Gruau echoes the expressive lines and controlled colors of his predecessor. Born Renato Zavagli Ricciardelli on February 4, 1909 in Rimini, Italy, Gruau took his mother's name when he moved to Paris as a young man. He began his career in the editorial press, making a name for himself in the industry by designing the fashion campaign for Miss Dior in 1947. A graphic artist for haute-couture houses and advertising agencies, Gruau came to prominence with the poster for Federico Fellini's Italian classic La Dolce Vita (1959). He died on March 31, 2004 in Rome at the age of 95, and his hometown of Rimini has a collection of his work in a museum there.
