Product description
Authentic and very poetic pair of Black Forest style bookends, entirely hand-carved from dense solid wood during the 1950s.
Each piece of this coordinated set features a small Scottish Terrier dog sitting at the entrance of its carved wooden kennel with a pointed, fluted roof. The artisan performed magnificent gouge and chiseling work to reproduce the rough texture of the animal's typical coat, enhanced by small contrasting round eyes and a delicate hand-painted red tongue. A rare detail: each dog retains its small original patinated brass side attachment chain.
A superb example of mid-century European animal folk art, ideal for structuring a charming library or decorating a retro desk.
Features:
• Theme: Scottish Terrier Dog / Black Forest
• Materials: Gouged carved solid wood and brass
• Period: Circa 1950-1960
• Dimensions (each): Height 20 cm | Length
12 cm | Width 12 cm
• Condition: Splendid period conservation condition.
The wood is sound and heavy, a tiny, very clean
patina of time on a dog's ear attests to its
total historical authenticity.
