Product description
Elegant antique pair of decorative cassolettes or urns, solid with marble and gilded bronze elements screwed onto a central rod. Breccia marble from Bénou, Pyrenees, polychrome veined in shades mixing ochre, burgundy, green, and ivory, chased gilded bronze mounts, Napoleon III period, circa 1860-1880. Each piece features a mount with volute handles. The body is encircled by a gilded bronze frieze with repoussé decoration of animated putti. The lower part is highlighted with foliage motifs and rests on a gilded bronze plinth, itself placed on a matching square marble base.
Height 35cm, max width at handles 14cm, max diameter approx 10cm. Very good overall condition, entirely cleaned. Bronze showing some slight discreet deformations, particularly at the handles and feet, and small discreet dents on one. The marbles are sound, noting slight wear at the bottom of one base and a discreet old crack on the upper body of one, not weakening, possibly original. Also noted are slight adjustment defects at the upper screws and a very slight overall misalignment, consistent with age and not affecting stability or solidity. The pieces are not drilled and retain their original integrity. Approximately 4-4.200kg per piece.
