This pair of side chairs by the esteemed Swedish manufacturer Nordiska Kompaniet exemplifies the refined elegance of early twentieth-century Scandinavian design. The striking silhouette, defined by an elongated, shaped backrest, highlights the exceptional craftsmanship and historical significance of these canonical seating elements.
Constructed with a rich brown burl wood veneer, the frames exhibit a highly figured grain pattern that serves as the primary decorative motif. The tall backrests feature subtle geometric detailing and a central splat that anchors the structural composition. The drop-in seats are upholstered in a crisp white textile, providing a stark, sophisticated contrast to the warm tones of the wood. Manufactured in Sweden, these chairs reflect the transitional period between classical forms and the emerging Art Deco movement.
The chairs were made on order in 1930’s for Swedish tycoon Hjalmar Wicander Villa Lusthusporten.
The chairs remain in good vintage condition, preserving the authentic character of the burl wood. The frames display a natural patina and historical wear that validate their age and provenance, while the structural integrity remains fully intact. The textile seating is pristine, ensuring immediate functionality.
