1 Pair Of Monumental Belgian Mid-Century Industrial Enamel Pendant Lights — C. 1950s
Exceptional pair of oversized Belgian industrial pendant lights, dating from approximately the 1950s–early 1960s.
Originally used in a chicory-growing farm in Kampenhout, Belgium, a region historically renowned for its traditional chicory cultivation. These impressive lights combine authentic Belgian agricultural-industrial heritage with a remarkably timeless, architectural design.
Each lamp features an exceptionally large, shallow enamelled-steel shade measuring approximately 80 cm / 31.5 inches in diameter.
The exterior has a beautiful soft industrial grey enamel finish, contrasting with the white reflective enamel interior. The combination gives the lamps their characteristic utilitarian appearance while the unusually wide, shallow profile creates a very strong sculptural presence.
Originally conceived as functional agricultural/industrial lighting, their pure proportions and monumental scale make them particularly suitable for contemporary interiors, lofts, galleries, restaurants, hotels, retail spaces, large dining rooms or above a kitchen island.
The lamps have been rewired and fitted with new lamp holders/sockets, allowing them to be used in a contemporary interior while preserving the original enamel shades.
Both lamps remain in attractive vintage condition. They show authentic traces of their industrial past, including small chips, scratches and age-related wear to the enamel. These have deliberately been preserved and contribute to their character and patina.
The pair is particularly impressive when suspended together, either at the same height or at slightly different levels.
