Period: Early 20th century

Spectacular pair of porcelain albarellos, with cartouches for “Ambar” and “Opio”. Albarellos were the jars traditionally used by apothecaries for storing medicinal liquids. However, in addition to their functional use, they were decorated with paintings that, as in this case, simulated frames for the names of the substances they contained, with intertwined vegetal and decorative geometric elements, purely ornamental, as well as gilded bands. The very design of their shape goes beyond the merely functional. Currently, they are also used as decorative elements or jars in which to store kitchen items.
