Product description
Antique trays in elm wood, from China. They form a pair of rectangular trays from the late Qing dynasty. The trays nest one inside the other, so they take up little space when not in use. The sides, slightly slanted outwards, are joined with comb joints and iron corner plates; the base is made of boards and the inner rim has a moulded fillet. The wood has a honey-gold tone with marked grain, with darker stains on the edges and reddish fillets on the inside. On a low table or a chest of drawers, they present books, candles or fruit; stacked, they take up little space.
