He became popular in the late 1870s and served on the juries of the Salon de Paris and the Prix de Rome. He won numerous prizes and medals, and in 1874, he was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honor. The first weaving is taken from the painting "The Tempest," painted in 1880 by Pierre-Auguste Cot and his most famous work. The weaving was created in 1899 by Neyret Frères. The second weaving was created by Neyret in 1908 to serve as a "hanger" for "The Tempest," in the same format. It is taken from another painting by Pierre-Auguste Cot: "The Spring" from 1873. Around 1900, the two paintings were designed in response to the popularity of idyllic scenes from the novels of Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (Paul and Virginie) and the Greek Longus (Daphnis and Chloé) and are considered essential pieces from Neyret Frères's work at that time.
