Product description
This work is a framed lithograph by the artist W. Hambüchen, titled 'Am Niederrhein'. The image depicts a serene landscape with a shepherd and his flock of sheep, surrounded by characteristic pollard willows, creating a classic rural scene.
The lithograph is executed on paper and is signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right corner. The title and edition number are located in the lower left corner, indicating that this is copy number 2 of a limited edition of 50 pieces. The artwork is set in a wooden frame with a subtly worked edge, protected behind glass. The back is finished with a wooden panel and fitted with a hanging wire.
The work is in good condition commensurate with its age, retaining its original appearance. The frame shows some signs of age, which contributes to the authentic character of the whole. Unfortunately, a silverfish once inhabited it; it is stuck to the glass and the outer edge of the lithograph, which can be remedied with restoration work. This lithograph makes an understated addition to a classic or country interior. The work comes into its own in a study, hallway, or living room, where it adds a calming element to the space.
Wilhelm Hambüchen is known for his boat scenes. He occasionally visited the Netherlands as a tourist, which inspired him. Wilhelm Hambüchen rarely made lithographs, and this is likely one of the few ever produced. The lithograph is also one of the first editions (2/50).
