Product description
This pair of antique polychrome terracotta portrait busts from Rajasthan presents a fascinating example of traditional Indian craftsmanship. The sculptures, crafted from clay and painted in polychrome, are distinguished by their intricate detail and authentic depiction of regional facial features and decorative elements. The busts are modeled in clay and mounted on round wooden bases. The paintwork, in earthy browns, blacks, and greens, is accentuated by gold highlights on the sculpted jewelry. The wooden backing exhibits a robust, handcrafted fastening, indicative of the pieces' age and traditional manufacturing methods. The busts' condition reflects their age and history. The original paintwork displays a charming patina, further emphasizing the antique character of the pieces. Structurally sound, the busts retain age-related imperfections such as chips and cracks, thus underscoring their authenticity. These expressive sculptures are ideal as decorative accents in an eclectic or ethnically inspired interior. They lend cultural depth to living spaces, libraries, or galleries and combine well with other antique or handcrafted objects.
