About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Unique and full of character, this antique gilded metal ashtray features the iconic shape of the Oriental slipper with a curved toe, in a particularly expressive decorative rendition. The surface is entirely adorned with rich relief decoration. Foliage, scrolls, and stylized motifs cover the shoe up to its curled tip. Polychrome accents of red, blue, and green, still present in the recesses of the design, contrast with the warm tones of the metal and delicately highlight the relief work. The deliberately substantial casting gives the object a satisfying presence in hand. The raw finish of the reverse side allows appreciation of its molded construction, while the natural wear of the surface and polychromy fully contributes to its antique charm. Originally designed as a table ashtray, with a dedicated cigarette rest, it can now be repurposed as a small catch-all, incense holder, or simply kept as a decorative curiosity. A lovely vintage piece inspired by the Ottoman world, to be placed on a coffee table, a desk, or among a collection of travel objects. Dimensions. Approximately 14 cm in length. Turkey, 20th century.
