Product description
This decorative sculpture is a charming representation of the iconic Dutch characters Ot en Sien, known from children's books illustrated by Cornelis Jetses. The piece captures a nostalgic moment, with the two children standing in front of a traditional reading board, a scene deeply rooted in Dutch cultural history and also found in the Museumboerderij Ot en Sien in Surhuisterveen.
The sculpture is made from a combination of materials, with the figures crafted from a sturdy composite and the reading board and stepped base from dark-colored wood. The figures are hand-painted in a palette of blue, brown, cream, and black, reflecting early 20th-century attire. A brass plaque on the base authenticates it as part of the 'Nostalgische Ot en Sien Speelgoed Collectie'.
The overall condition of the object is good, with a finish intended to have an aged appearance. This patina, including the intentional wear spots in the paint, contributes to the vintage character and authentic atmosphere of the sculpture. The whole is structurally sound and complete.
This sculpture is a striking object that adds a touch of nostalgia and cultural heritage to an interior. It fits well in a classic or rural decor, but can also serve as a unique decorative element in a children's room, study, or a public space such as a library or school.
