A powerful and colorful painting by Dutch artist Oskar Lens (1930–2017). This work, titled “Lady Sappho,” is executed in oil on canvas and has a generous size of 100 x 100 cm.
Lens, born in Hilversum and trained in Utrecht, decided at the age of 33 to dedicate his career entirely to painting. Influenced by artists such as Jaap Nanninga and Theo Bitter, he developed from abstract work to a more figurative and expressive style. His oeuvre is characterized by vibrant colors and a free, playful approach to the human figure.
In this painting, we see an intriguing composition with multiple figures, with the central woman—“Lady Sappho”—immediately capturing the eye. The powerful brushwork and bold use of color give the work a strong emotional charge and make it a true eye-catcher in any interior.
