Product description
A vintage armchair with an orange shell seat. The seat is made of plastic and rests on a black metal base. The metal legs show rust and wear. The plastic seat has light signs of use. Absolute masterpiece and rare example of the Gispen model no. 416 armchair, designed by the iconic duo Wim Rietveld & André R. Cordemeyer and produced by Gispen (Culemborg) in the late 1950s. While model 416 was usually supplied in neutral shades (such as light grey or white), this version features the original factory-original red polyester shell. An extremely rare appearance that is hardly found on the market. This model is considered a milestone in Dutch furniture history. It is one of the very first pieces of furniture in the Netherlands where a one-piece, fiberglass-reinforced polyester shell was combined with a steel tubular frame. The shell is mounted on the frame via the original rubber shock absorbers (shock mounts), which provides the characteristic and surprising seating comfort.
