Product description
Dutch socio-political anniversary poster from VARA (Vereeniging van Arbeiders Radio Amateurs).
VARA was founded in 1925 as a socialist broadcaster, closely linked to the labor movement and the SDAP (predecessor of the PvdA).
A 50-year anniversary places this poster around 1975.
The slogan “De Stem van het Hart” (The Voice of the Heart) was a well-known VARA motto during that period.
Imagery: workers jointly raising a red flag – a classic socialist symbol.
However, the style consciously harks back to interwar propaganda design (1920s–30s): limited colors (red, black, white), powerful, heroic worker figures, and flag motifs.
The design of this poster was a conscious nostalgic reference to the origins of the workers' broadcaster.
Graphically, the whole is strongly related to socialist realism and early modernist poster art.
