Elegant set of four original vintage bentwood chairs by Thonet. The chairs combine the traditional Thonet bentwood technique with a particularly light and harmonious design language and are ideal as dining, kitchen or café chairs. The frame is made of warm-toned beech wood with the flowing bentwood shapes characteristic of Thonet. The open backrest is particularly beautifully designed with two nested, curved wooden arches. Together with the slender legs and the surrounding curved reinforcing ring below the seat, a delicate yet balanced silhouette is created. The seats are made with classic Viennese cane weave. The light octagonal weave forms a beautiful contrast to the honey-coloured beech wood and underlines the timeless character of the chairs. Thonet is one of the most important manufacturers in the history of modern furniture design. Michael Thonet perfected the technique of bending solid wood as early as the 1850s, thereby creating the basis for the industrial series production of bentwood furniture. The tradition of this production is continued by Thonet to this day. Condition: Very good vintage condition with slight signs of age and use. The wooden surfaces are generally very well maintained and show only minor scratches or localized marks. The Viennese cane weave is clean, taut and, in the pictures, without noticeable breakages or major damage. L40 x W40 x H84 cm Seat height 45 cm
