Product description
This is an authentic set of two vintage dolphin sculptures, crafted by the Italian glass factory Rubelli V.A. Murano. The pieces are an example of the refined craftsmanship for which Murano is known, combining the clarity of the glass with the luxury of gilded accents.
Each sculpture is hand-formed from solid Murano glass, resulting in a flowing and dynamic shape that captures the movement of the dolphins. The fins, tails, and snouts are finished with a 24-carat gold leaf overlay, creating a warm contrast with the transparent glass. The original 'Rubelli V.A. Murano - Made in Italy' sticker is still present on both objects, confirming their origin.
This is a heavy-quality set of two different, stepped sizes with a significant total weight of no less than 1.85 kilograms:
• Small dolphin: 709 grams
• Large dolphin: 1142 grams
The set is in good vintage condition consistent with its age. The heavy glass itself is completely clear, shiny, and perfectly intact (no chips or cracks).
The gilded parts show a characteristic patina and signs of age inherent to authentic vintage glassware (see detail photos for a realistic impression):
• The snouts: Are in a very neat and shiny condition with only minimal, superficial vintage traces/fine scratches.
• The fins: Show some clear vintage wear in places where the gold layer has become thinner or worn away over the years.
• The tail of the large dolphin: Has a natural, dark discoloration/oxidation of the metal underlayer along the edge.
These sculptures are an elegant addition to a sideboard, bookshelf, or display cabinet. They fit well within various interior styles, from classic and Hollywood Regency to a modern eclectic decor, and function as a refined and artistic accent.
