Product description
Capture the essence of the classic Danish wilderness with this striking mid-century original oil painting by listed Danish artist Aage Jessen (1876–1961). This gorgeous composition depicts the iconic rolling, purple heather-covered hills (lyngklædte bakker) of Jutland, sweeping down toward the peaceful Silkeborg lakes. In the distance, the distinctive peak of Himmelbjerget (Sky Mountain) rises against a dramatic, cloud-swept sky. A winding dirt track and a traditional thatched-roof cottage add perfect pastoral depth to this serene, romantic view. Jessen was highly regarded for his ability to translate atmospheric Scandinavian light onto canvas. This piece is signed clearly by the artist in the lower corner and still retains its original historical gallery inventory markings (6164 / 7122) on the back stretcher bars.
