Original French Art Deco chandelier (Lustre à vase et tulipes) from circa 1930. This chandelier is an example of French interior art from the interwar period and is attributed to the master glass artist Jean Gauthier Établissements.
The Glassware (Dahlia & Skyscraper Decor)
The lamp consists of a large central ceiling bowl (vasque) and three matching side shades (tulipes). The glass is made of thick, heavy pressed glass and features the iconic "Dahlia / Tournesol" pattern. The design combines clean, geometric "skyscraper" stripes with lush, deeply pressed Art Deco flower heads.
The glass elements hang in a robust hand-forged iron frame. The fixture is in good structural condition.
It consists of traditional hammered iron (martelé) with characteristic deep cross-cuts. Authentic, early welds and rivet connections are visible on the central cage and the support arms. The piece features a weathered patina layer that beautifully contrasts the rugged iron with the delicate glass.
Condition of the object:
* Glassware: In very good condition. No major damage, cracks, or missing pieces. The glass is clear and clean.
* Electrical: The lamp functions, and the central fitting construction is entirely original. The wiring was previously replaced with plastic cord, but for safety and a historical look, it is recommended to replace this with a fabric cord.
* The patinated iron frame is generally in good condition but has a few rust spots here and there. Also, 3 pairs of original mounting bolts are missing. These should be replaced with more authentic ones.
This chandelier comes into its own perfectly in a hallway with a high ceiling or above a spacious dining table. The design fits seamlessly into classic, eclectic, or monumental interiors where historical lighting plays a central role.
