Original Vintage Herman Miller Eames Lounge Chair (approx. 1970) - Black Ash/Rosewood.
A 100% original, early generation (2nd production/generation from approx. 1970) Eames Lounge Chair (Model 670), produced by Herman Miller. The armchair was bought at an auction in the 80s and has remained in our family ever since.
Because we have sat on it daily all these years (to this day!), it is truly a well-used armchair. Its strong construction is evident, as the structure is still perfectly straight and the crucial rubber dampers (shock mounts) at the back are original and still firmly attached. So, no hidden defects in the frame or wood. This is an early American variant, recognizable by the transparent Herman Miller sticker on the bottom, the armrests with two screws, and the rare brown zippers.
Another important technical detail for connoisseurs: the shells are made of rare vintage Rosewood (Brazilian Rosewood), which was stained dark/black on the back at the time. On the layered plywood edges, you can still see the original, warm orange-brown color of the Rosewood layers.
After more than 50 years, the leather has seen better days. Fortunately, the two back sections are still completely intact and in good, neat condition. The main seat cushion, however, is unfortunately completely torn at the corner. Because I used the armchair daily, I temporarily taped this with black tape some time ago and covered it with a blanket in recent years. The armrests also have deep dry cracks (craquelure). The leather on the seat and armrests therefore needs to be professionally addressed or replaced at some point, but the wooden shells are still in very good condition given the age of the armchair.
