The unique concept: Three worlds on one canvas
This painting stands out due to its fascinating genesis. The composition is a so-called 'artistic synthesis': the artist has harmoniously merged images from three separate photographs — an intimate home, a large-scale hospital, and a forest — into one impressive whole.
• The symbolism: The fusion of the 'Home' (privacy and warmth) with the 'Hospital' (care, recovery, and medical confrontation) symbolizes human vulnerability and the inevitable transitions in life. The six trees from the forest act as rhythmic 'guardians' watching over the border between these two worlds. A winding reddish-brown path invites contemplation and reflects a personal life journey or a process of processing and recovery.
• The technique: Entirely handcrafted with a powerful, tangible Impasto / Paletmes-synthese. Thanks to the heavy paint texture, the work gains a beautiful, lively dynamic that changes with the light in your room.
• Title of the work: The Six Guardians
• Year: 2021
• Medium: Oil paint on high-quality canvas
• Size: 50 x 40 cm (Verified via stretcher frame)
• Signature: Handwritten first name 'KATHLEEN' on the wooden frame.
• Authenticity: Includes original, official validation document (Certificate of Authenticity).
Additional information about Storme Kathleen's craftsmanship:
This painting is the product of years of passion and extensive academic training. Kathleen Storme (born in Ieper, 1954) is a thoroughly trained artist. She perfected her technique during an intensive trajectory of over 2,200 official lesson hours at the renowned Westhoek-Akademie in Koksijde (Part-time Art Education, Visual Arts study program):
• Certificate of Secondary Art Education (2003–2008): A 5-year higher degree (1,600 lesson hours) with broad training in Sculpture, Drawing, and Art History.
• Qualification Certificate Specialization Degree (2009–2011): A 2-year follow-up program (640 lesson hours) specifically focused on Sculpture and the Elective Studio Drawing.
• To this day, she still voluntarily attends classes in the WAK studio, despite having achieved the highest degree and successfully completed the entire trajectory from A to Z. She follows her greatest passion: ART in her own way and technique. The diploma in painting is not yet available.
Verdict of the examination committee and jury members:
"Her profound knowledge of spatial forms and three-dimensional structures from sculpture is clearly palpable in the unique, sculptural texture of her paintings. She lives in the canvas and translates that impulse onto canvas, creating her own story; that is masterful craftsmanship."
