Product description
This is an original woodcut by the French artist Bernard Buffet, one of the most recognizable painters of the 20th century. The work, titled "Dorian Gray" and created in 1977, displays Buffet's characteristic expressionistic style with harsh, black lines and a somber, penetrating atmosphere.
The woodcut is printed in black ink on paper and is annotated in pencil on the lower left with "Houtsnede g" and the title "Dorian Gray". On the lower right, the work is hand-signed by Buffet and dated "'77". The print is professionally framed in a simple black wooden frame with a cream-colored passe-partout, which accentuates the graphic power of the image.
Personal dedication from 1993:
The reverse side features a handwritten personal dedication in Dutch:
“ Nicole, for you on 20-12-1993 R.D.L.. Additionally, an original administration or inventory number ( 1 DLK XX II ) has been applied with red pencil. This gives the beautiful Art piece an extra historical value.
The artwork is in excellent condition, with sharp lines and clear contrast that has withstood the test of time well. The signature and pencil annotations are clearly legible. The framing has contributed to the good preservation of the paper and the print.
This signed woodcut is a valuable addition to a collection of modern European Art. Its expressive character and monochrome palette make it a suitable piece for various interior styles, from minimalist to classic, and it can serve as an intellectual focal point in a study, library, or living space.
