Description:
Offered is a beautiful and 100% authentic vintage crystal ashtray with a matching pestle from the world-famous French crystal house Baccarat. This iconic and heavy model is designed in the shape of a mortar with a pestle (mortier et pilon). It is specifically designed for the pipe smoker; with the solid crystal pestle, the ash can be tapped out of the pipe bowl extremely gently without damaging it. Today, it is also a stunning decorative object for a modern or vintage interior. The object is made of very high-quality, solid lead crystal. The sleek, faceted edges ensure brilliant light refraction.
Authenticity mark:
The bottom of the ashtray features the official, circular Baccarat acid mark (etching mark). Due to age and use (sliding scratches on the base), the stamp has faded somewhat, but under the right lighting, the mark is still clearly recognizable in the exact center (see the detail photos).
Condition and details:
Material: Heavy French lead crystal.
Condition: In beautiful vintage condition with normal signs of age.
The underside of the foot ring has the inevitable fine sliding scratches typical of a used object of this age.
Special feature: There are a few tiny, embedded air bubbles (seed bubbles) in the glass of the pestle. This is part of the early, artisanal glassblowing production process.
Shipping and pickup:
Shipping is possible and is fully facilitated via Whoppah. I will pack the heavy crystal with the utmost care (generously wrapped in bubble wrap and a sturdy outer box) to ensure a safe journey. Pickup is, of course, also possible by arrangement.
