Second Dawn is an original painting in which a dark, almost still city contrasts with a sky that is completely lit up. This contrast forms the core of the work for me: heavy, dark buildings and bare trees in the foreground, against the warm golden yellow, white, and soft blue-grey of a new morning. The painting is built up from multiple layers of acrylic paint. The loose, partly scraped paint treatment gives both the sky and the buildings a lot of movement and reveals earlier layers in various places. The bright morning light falls between the buildings and is reflected on the street, giving the dark cityscape something hopeful. Second Dawn is a contemporary cityscape that shows many painterly details up close and works strongly from a distance due to the contrast between light and dark.
