Opal Blue Glass Vase/Cup, 1970s – Italy
Exquisite opaline blue glass vase/cup from Italy, dating from the 1970s. This piece embodies the elegance and craftsmanship of Italian style at its finest. Opal glass, also known as milk glass, is an opalescent or semi-translucent glass, milky white or colored, blown or pressed into a wide variety of shapes. First produced in Murano in 1405 and popularized in Venice in the 16th century, it comes in blue, pink, yellow, brown, black, and white, the latter being the most popular and the one that gives it its name. The white color is achieved by adding an opacifier, such as tin dioxide or bone ash. In this case, the base is made of translucent blue glass, but without the opal finish.
Its elegant and timeless design makes it a striking piece that suits both modern and more classic interiors.
