Product description
The Onnaing faience factory, founded in 1800 in Northern France, produced quality popular faience for over a century, renowned for the durability of its glaze and the delicate nature of its transfer-printed decorations. This soap dish is a discreet and elegant testament to that, dating from the late 19th or very early 20th century. Its oval shape with rounded edges, the grooved basin designed to allow water to drain, and the brilliant white background framed by four floral cartouches on a deep black ground. Pink and white roses, green foliage, in a late Victorian style that was then very much in vogue in bourgeois interiors. A fine gilded line runs along the edge, a sign that this piece was intended for a meticulously appointed bathroom, where every detail mattered. One can imagine it on the marble of a pedestal sink, in a white-tiled bathroom, next to a matching jug and basin. Today, it naturally finds its place on an antique shelf, a retro bathroom cabinet, or simply displayed as a decoration for what it is. An everyday object from yesteryear, preserved intact. Length approximately 12 cm. Glaze intact, slight traces of time on the gilded edge. Original stamp on the back.
