Product description
This is an oil portrait of an older woman, signed with the name "seven" and dated November 1, 1952 ("1-11-52"). The painting is most likely an early work by the Belgian (West Flemish) artist Roger Vansevenant (1922-2013).
Artist: Roger Vansevenant was born in Poperinge and died in Ypres. Although he was known later in his career for abstract and expressive acrylic works, he had been painting and drawing since the 1930s. The shorter signature "seven" or "Sevenant" refers directly to his surname.
The date 1952 places the work in his early active period. In the early fifties, he briefly experimented with photography, but he remained faithful to classical painting and portraiture.
It shows a classic, confidently painted portrait with great attention to the woman's facial features and expression, set against a warm, uniform background.
