This serene Nepalese bronze Buddha is traditionally created as a small devotional statue for use in a private home or religious setting. The figure is seated in Dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation and inner balance, upon a simple lotus pedestal. The restrained modelling, peaceful facial expression, and soberly rendered robe give the piece a calm and contemplative presence. Constructed using the traditional hollow-cast technique, the statue relates to the Newar bronze tradition practised in Nepal. The underside remains open, showing no later filling or evident modern intervention. Measuring 20 centimetres in height and 15 centimetres in width, the piece is dated broadly to the 19th or 20th century. The bronze material has developed an even, naturally aged patina that enhances the understated character of the sculpture. The statue is in great condition, preserving its structural integrity and original finish. The patina reflects its age and careful preservation over time, adding depth to the bronze surface. This devotional figure brings a sense of tranquillity to any interior space.
