About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
A remarkable sculptural bird by Danish ceramic artist Hanne Stentøj, dating from the 1960s–1970s. Balancing somewhere between studio sculpture and zoomorphic vessel, this rare piece is a beautiful example of Scandinavian mid-century studio ceramics.
The richly glazed upper body features Hanne Stentøj’s characteristic deep cobalt “Patina” blue glaze, whose luminous surface contrasts beautifully with the raw textured stoneware below. A striking spiral motif decorates the wing, adding rhythm and movement to the sculptural form.
Handcrafted in Denmark, the piece perfectly embodies the organic and expressive approach of Scandinavian modernist ceramics during the postwar period. The contrast between glossy glaze and raw clay enhances its tactile quality and highlights its artisanal character.
Whether displayed as a standalone sculptural object, on a sideboard, or within a curated collection of studio pottery, this bird possesses a strong and captivating presence.
