Product description
Smouldering, 2026
Oil on linen, 100 x 160 cm. From the series Brand.
A figure stands upright in a sea of purple and pink fabric, hand against head. The face is not a face but a mask: grey, angular, slightly crooked, as if it is just being put on or taken off. Beneath it, a body glows in warm, continuous earth tones, vulnerable and unprotected.
In 'Brand', what it means to grow up in a world that is faltering. 'Smouldering' is about the face we show the world and what continues to glow behind it. The mask protects, but also holds something back. Yet it does not extinguish: an orange flower glows on the hip and the grass continues to grow between the dripping paint.
