Autumn has this rare ability to transform an ordinary landscape into something almost luminous. This is exactly what J. André captured here, in 1968. At the center of the composition, a cylindrical medieval tower with a conical roof rises above the trees. To its left, a small half-timbered building with blue shutters is sheltered behind a low stone wall. Birds cross the pale sky as small black silhouettes. But it is the vegetation that first catches the eye. The trees are captured in full autumnal transformation: deep reds, burnt ochres, still vibrant greens, golden yellows. The light seems to emanate from within the foliage. In the foreground, a dense undergrowth with a low wall of flat stones, tall grasses, and dark tones that, by contrast, highlight the clarity of the sky and the warmth of the autumn colors. The paint application is generous. Impasto is visible on the trunks, foliage, and stones. The brushwork is free, direct, without hesitation. The painting is presented in its original frame: grayed wood with wide moldings, a gilded inner slip, typical of the decorative taste of the 1960s-1970s. Some signs of age on the frame, visible in the photographs. Signed and dated lower right: J. André 1968. Overall framed dimensions: approximately 40 × 37 cm.
