Product description
Prestigious and very refined Mid-Century religious statuette representing a Madonna and Child (Notre-Dame du Capuchon), made during the years 1940 / 1950.
This piece of sacred art is distinguished by its material: it is crafted from reconstituted alabaster (or composite bannal stone), a highly compact mixture of mineral alabaster powder and binder. This post-war art process gives the statue its fresh, smooth, and very dense appearance, significantly heavier and more qualitative to the touch than simple plaster. The modernist line depicts the Virgin Mary dressed in a rigid, hooded geometric cape, sheltering the Infant Jesus with open arms in front of her.
The smooth, hollowed-out circular base beneath the plinth is free of any visible signature, typical of fine Christian statuary editions from this period. A magnificent object with a strong graphic presence, ideal for a cabinet of curiosities or an art collection.
Characteristics:
• Theme: Madonna and Child (Sacred Art)
• Style: Late Art Deco / Minimalist
• Material: Reconstituted Alabaster (Composite Alabaster Powder)
• Period: Circa 1940-1950
• Dimensions: Height 20 cm | Length (base diameter) 6 cm | Width 4 cm
• Condition: Perfect state of preservation (Mint). The compact mineral material is intact, without cracks or any missing parts, with a very beautiful freshness of the white hue.
