About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is a hand-carved wooden sculpture by the Belgian artist Noël Duforet. The work is a characteristic example of figurative folk art, with a direct reference to the city of Veurne, as carved into the base.
The figure is made from a solid piece of dark-colored wood and depicts a stylized monk-like figure. The figure is dressed in a habit with a hood and wears a white rope as a belt, which adds a material contrast. The expressive, somewhat rough carving technique is clearly visible and gives the work its artisanal character. The artist's name and the place name 'Veurne' are carved into the integral wooden base, confirming the origin of the piece.
The overall condition of the sculpture is good, in accordance with its age and the nature of the material. The wood carving has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the object's character. The original finish and rope detail have been preserved, underlining the integrity of the piece.
This sculpture is a suitable object for a collector of Belgian regional art or as a decorative accent in an interior with classic or rustic elements. It can be placed on a dresser, in a bookcase, or on a console.
