This "Scissor chair," model FB18, was designed in 1955 by architect Jan van Grunsven and is part of the Combex series. The chair was produced by UMS/Pastoe in Utrecht and is made of laminated plywood layers. In the 1950s and 1960s, Van Grunsven worked at Gerrit Rietveld's architecture firm. Although the chair was originally named FB18, it was nicknamed the "Scissor Chair" because of the striking shape of the frame. The chair was recently reupholstered in yellow, the same color used in a Pastoe advertising campaign from the 1950s (see photo from catalog).
